Counting Tins

Place a small selection of number cards on the table, together with a pile of [small hexagonal tiles]. (The square brackets indicate options for you to complete, as available.)

"Which card has the number which tells us that?"

The selection of cards uses numbers known to the child.

The jumbled arrangement adds difficulty.

Be careful to use identical 'things'. A mature child might provide answers of 2,4, or 6 if there are four tins of beans and two tins of peas and the request is not clearly made and understood. ("How many tins of pilchards are there?" "I do not know what pilchards are!")
