Once your child appreciates the meanings and shapes of the digit symbols: then it is time to think of the order of the numbers. I could have used arranging - ordering - organizing - sizing - ranking - in my heading: all are equally suitable.
When chatting to your child use the most familiar words. There may be subtle differences: avoid, or explain, void confusion. Simple requests may well not be understood. The examples, below, usually have a commentary for those unaware of pitfalls ahead.
